Writer, Translator and Screenwriter
S. Hareesh is a writer, translator and screenwriter of Malayalam literature and cinema. He is best known for his short stories and his acclaimed debut novel, Meesa (Moustache), which explores caste in Kerala in the mid-20th century. It was later published as a full novel by DC Books and won the JCB Prize for Literature in 2020. Hareesh has also authored three short story collections: Rasavidyayude Charithram (The History of Alchemy), Aadam, and Appan. He has received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award twice, the Nandanar Award and the Geetha Hiranyan Endowment of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. Hareesh has also made his mark in the film industry with his unique style of storytelling. He has scripted, produced and directed films such as Aedan (Garden of Desire) and Farzi. He has also co-written the screenplay for Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Jallikattu, which was India’s official entry at the 2020 Academy Awards. Hareesh is known for his innovative and genre-bending work in the Indian entertainment industry.
