Dr. Shashi Tharoor is an Indian politician, author, and public intellectual. Since 2009, he has served as the Member of Parliament from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in Kerala. He previously served as the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information and as the Minister of State for the Ministry of External Affairs. He is also a prolific author, columnist, journalist, and human rights advocate. Dr. Tharoor has received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2019 for his book ‘An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India.’ His other works include ‘Why I Am A Hindu’, ‘Nehru: The Invention of India’, and many others. He has also authored 16 bestselling works of fiction and non-fiction since 1981, all of which are centered on India and its history, culture, film, politics, society, and foreign policy.
