Christine Leunens is the author of Primordial Soup, which The Sunday Times called a "remarkable debut novel"; A Can of Sunshine, which was chosen by the NZ Herald as one of the Best Books of 2013; and Caging Skies, which was nominated for the prix Médicis and prix FNAC. Desirée Gezentsvey adapted Caging Skies into a play, which was then adapted into the film Jojo Rabbit by Taika Waititi, which won the 2020 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Humanitas Prize for "writing that promotes human dignity, meaning, and freedom." Her book 'In Amber's Wake' is currently being made into a film by Mimi Polk Gitlin, the producer of the Academy Award-winning film Thelma & Louise.
