Acapella Group
Founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996, Penn Masala has successfully pioneered South Asian a cappella in the United States. As the first group in the world to bring the sounds of the Indian subcontinent to a cappella, they've consistently been at the forefront of South Asian-Western fusion. Over the past 25 years, Penn Masala has released eleven full-length studio albums and an EP; the group has also written, arranged, and produced several original compositions. In both the United States and abroad, Penn Masala has performed at a range of events, from President Obama’s Diwali Celebration to the Indian International Film Academy Awards. Within India, Penn Masala has toured extensively over the past 10 years, including performances at the Star Screen Awards and the Zee Music Awards, sharing the stage with artists like A.R Rahman, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Arijit Singh, and collaborating with established singers including Benny Dayal, Jonita Gandhi, and Vishal Dadlani. Furthermore, Penn Masala was featured in the comedy film American Desi and in the major motion picture Pitch Perfect 2.
