Theme - Is Originality Dead?
The Nature of Originality: An Ouroboros?
Platinum Think Piece Of The Year
Writer - Amrutha Manoj, Kochi, India
Synopsis - The Ouroboros is a powerful symbol of cyclicality, of eternal return. It represents the idea that endings are just new beginnings, that creation and destruction are part of the same process. The nature of originality is like an Ouroboros representing the cyclical nature of creativity - how we draw inspiration from what exists, create something 'new', which then becomes part of what inspires future creators. It also touches on the paradox of originality - how our pursuit of the original often leads us back to the familiar, much like the serpent consuming its own tail.
The same, but different, keeps the original alive
Gold Think Piece Of The Year
Writer - Ujval Nanavati, Pune, India
Synopsis - Answering the question, ‘Is originality dead?’ first begs the questions, ‘What is originality?’ and ‘Was it ever alive?’. If everything is inspired or outright derived from something else, which, in turn, was itself inspired or derived then what is original? A version, cover, or even an imitation is an original as long as it brings something of the creator into it. Without this latitude of thought, it will not be possible to take something good and make it better. Literature, architecture, coding, music, art…everything abounds with such inspired originals, and the world is better for it.
Is Originality Dead?
Silver Think Piece Of The Year
Writer - Anika Arun Kumar, Chennai, India
Synopsis: Taking examples from the past and present, this article arrives at the nuanced definition of originality in the context of modern developments. It discusses the double-edged impact of commercialisation and societal pressure, suffocating the masses creatively while providing opportunities for unique works to shine through. Ultimately, this piece concludes that while every word in the world has already been used before, originality stems from new arrangements.

Utopian Dreams versus Pre-existing Utopias
Platinum Think Piece Of The Year
Writer - Juhimon Das, Guwahati, India
Synopsis - The man-environment debate has been the crux of discussion of the millennium manifesting itself in many climate change policies and action plans. With words and phrases like ‘limits-to-growth’, ‘sustainability’, ‘carbon footprint’ or ‘veganism’ being the dernier cri since the later half of the last century, the conflict between men’s unending aspirations and the planet’s decaying premonitions have been aggravating. Perhaps a more nuanced perspective on this debate is how development agendas and policies alter and mutilate the traditions, customs and livelihoods of certain communities, precisely, the indigenous societies and their eco-sensitive ways of life. Ascribing specifically to the underrated discussion of the societies of northeast India and the state’s neoliberal goals resulting in a perpetual tug-of-war, this article highlights the ongoing friction in this area.

Any argument starts with the use of the word "right," however "choice" might be a better alternative. Despite the fact that birth itself is not a choice for us as individuals, the "right to life" has long been a key premise of the laws that regulate human existence. In addition to discussing the topic from a variety of perspectives—religious, medical, emotional, and legal—this essay also briefly examines the author's own inner dilemma.

My piece argues how the Muslim identity of Bano is in conflict with the Hindutva agenda of the ruling regime. Women in power, too, were deafeningly silent on Bano. I talk about how I think upholding Brahmanical patriarchy hurts the progress made by feminism and how our silence in the face of Bano's betrayal makes us part of the problem.

Then there are the changes you address in yourself while seeing them in others. Grace with Greys takes a fun look at it all. Contradicting with comfort while growing, is one way we can evolve into better versions of ourselves.
Choose your Conflicts Wisely
#5 Think Piece Of The Year
Writer - Ujwal Nanavati, Pune, India
Synopsis: In every field, the opponents we face are already chosen and, more importantly, unrelated to us. This relentless pursuit of external standards has two negative effects: (a) it leads to conflict with everyone around us, including potential partners; and (b) it takes our attention away from a better and more deserving standard — our own selves. But does focusing on oneself to create goals imply being egotistical and uncaring, and does it set us up for failure as it is typically understood? Actually, the reverse is true. It might be the only way for us to perform at our peak potential.
