"ROBERT B. WEIDE began his career by chronicling iconic American comedians in documentaries that include, The Marx Brothers in a Nutshell, the Emmy-winning W.C. Fields Straight Up, and Lenny Bruce: Swear to Tell the Truth (another Emmy winner and Oscar nominee). In 1996, Weide wrote and produced the feature film Mother Night, based on the Kurt Vonnegut novel. In 1999, he produced and directed the HBO comedy special, Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm, which served as the springboard for the Golden Globe-winning series, Curb Your Enthusiasm, which Weide directed and executive produced for the first five seasons. He was Emmy-nominated as producer and director for four years running, winning the directing award during the third season. In Season 8, he direct the episode, Palestinian Chicken, which earned him the prestigious DGA Award for comedy direction, as well as another Emmy nomination. In 2008, Weide directed the feature film, How To Lose Friends & Alienate People, which opened as the #1 film in the UK. In 2011, Weide directed the acclaimed, Woody Allen: A Documentary, an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, earning Weide two more Emmy nominations. In 2014, Weide wrote and directed the British television comedy series, Mr. Sloane, starring Nick Frost and Olivia Colman. 2014 also saw the release of the feature film The Giver, co-written by Weide, and starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. In 2021, IFC Films released Weide’s documentary, Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time, 40 years in the making. The L.A. Times called it, “A gorgeously rendered, unexpectedly moving appraisal of the life and craft of one of the best-loved literary voices of the late 20th century.” "
