Engineer, Innovator & Education Reformist
Sonam Wangchuk is an engineer, innovator, and education reformist from Ladakh, known for founding ‘SECMOL’ and creating the ‘Ice Stupa’ project to combat water shortages. In 2022, he launched the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), focused on sustainable solutions for the region. Wangchuk remains an advocate for climate action, and in 2023, he gained attention for a 5-day climate fast to raise awareness about Ladakh's environmental challenges. He has received numerous accolades, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2018.
